Argentina captain Lionel Messi reacted with shock on social media after his team suffered a dramatic 2-1 defeat against Morocco in their 2024 Paris Olympic opener yesterday.
Argentina was trailing 2-1 when an additional 15 minutes of injury time were added at the end of the match. Cristian Medina appeared to score a late equalizer for La Albiceleste, seemingly securing a 2-2 draw.
However, the game was interrupted when angry Moroccan fans stormed the stadium. The match was temporarily suspended, and after almost two hours, a VAR check confirmed that Medina’s goal was ruled out for offside.
The remaining three minutes of injury time were played in an empty stadium, and Morocco ultimately secured a 2-1 victory, prompting Messi to express his disbelief on social media.
The Inter Miami captain wrote on his Instagram story: “Insolito” (Spanish for “Unbelievable”).
Lionel Messi, who is currently recovering from an ankle injury sustained during Argentina’s Copa America triumph over Colombia, is not part of Argentina’s squad at the Olympics.
