Liverpool have pulled off a surprising move by securing a deal for Stuttgart midfielder Wataru Endo, as they were unsuccessful in acquiring Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who both ended up at Chelsea.

The Reds have reached an unexpected agreement with Stuttgart’s Wataru Endo, who is now poised to undergo a medical examination before making a £16 million ($21 million) switch.

Having missed out on signing Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia during the current transfer window, Liverpool has swiftly secured the services of the 30-year-old Japanese international, according to information from Fabrizio Romano.

Amidst the departure of experienced midfielders Jordan Henderson and Fabinho earlier in this transfer window, Jurgen Klopp’s team is bolstering their midfield options with the addition of Endo.

Endo’s arrival comes as a valuable addition to Liverpool’s midfield, providing reinforcement after their recent struggles to secure important signings.

Joining Stuttgart in the summer of 2020 from Belgian Pro League’s Sint-Truiden, Endo featured in 40 matches during the 2022-23 season, contributing with six goals and five assists.

With a notable international career, Endo has earned a total of 50 caps representing Japan.

The Merseyside club started their season with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
