The Labour Party has denounced the removal of Senator Ali Ndume as the Chief Whip of the Senate, describing it as a “dictatorial inclination” of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Ndume was replaced by Senator Tahir Monguno, representing Borno North, following a directive from the party’s National Chairman, Umar Ganduje, and National Secretary, Senator Bashir Ajibola.

National Publicity Secretary of LP, Obiora Ifoh, expressed concerns that speaking truth to power is becoming a crime in Nigeria.
“The crime of Senator Ndume was his bold expression of his concerns regarding the escalating cost of living and food scarcity in Nigeria,” Ifoh said.
He added that the humiliation of Ndume by the Senate leadership portrays the dictatorial inclination of the APC.
Ifoh criticized the government’s handling of the economy, citing the recent report by the National Bureau of Statistics that food inflation has risen to 40.66%.

He also mentioned the alleged padding of the budget and the intimidation of Senator Abdul Ningi, who exposed the rot in the government.
“Nigeria is gradually descending into dictatorship, and we are calling on the citizens to be on alert and put up a defense against the starvation weapon being deployed by this administration,” Ifoh said.
