After a protracted illness, former Lyon striker, Bernard Lacombe, who was known for his extraordinary talent for scoring goals, passed away at the age of 72.

Picture a young Bernard, weaving through kids in the park near Lyon, dreaming big.
He therefore, turned those street-game moves into magic when he broke into the Lyon first team.
After shining locally, he tried his luck at Saint-Étienne before really taking off at Bordeaux.
In 497 Ligue 1 outings, he bagged 255 goals – still the second-highest total ever, trailing only Delio Onnis.
However, Lacombe wasn’t satisfied with club glory alone.
He also answered his country’s call 38 times, netting 12 goals for Les Bleus.
Meanwhile, Lacombe’s greatest moment occurred at Euro 1984, when he helped France defeat Spain 2-0 by starting the Paris final.
Eventually, he took over as manager at Lyon from 1996 to 2000.
There he exhibited the same spirit that once made him a striker ; now he was shaping the young players and creating the foundation upon which Lyon stands to-day.
