He avoided a four-year fraud suspension by cooperating with investigators.
On March 11, 2024, Okoye picked up a yellow card for time-wasting against Lazio in the 64th minute.
Investigators then noticed a sudden flood of 8/1 bets on that booking – locals won over €120,000.
Soon, Maduka Okoye and three friends faced scrutiny, and in June 2025 a disciplinary panel heard their case.
The commission ruled the offense as illegal betting and imposed the two-month suspension.
Consequently, Okoye will miss six Serie A matches starting August 18, when Udinese face Carrarese in the Coppa Italia. He returns on October 19.
