As for the charge, it is not merely one of irregular betting but one of sporting fraud.
Investigators have alleged that Okoye deliberately accepted a booking in the 64th minute of Udinese’s 2-1 Serie A win over Lazio.
This game was held at the Dacia Arena on March 11, 2024.
Also garnering attention and reportedly triggering further investigation by the Italian football authority was his cynical booking for time-wasting with barely any duration left in the match.
Consequently, Okoye and three of his friends have been under investigation for game-fixing activities.
This situation certainly punctuates a very promising year that was emerging for the goalie.
Recall that Enugu State Executive Governor just appointed him as an ambassador, applauding his career trajectory alongside his Nigerian roots.
