A cleaner in Maiduguri, Borno State, Faiza Abdulkadir, has been praised for her honesty after returning ₦4.8 million that was mistakenly credited to her bank account.

Faiza, who earns a monthly salary of ₦30,000 from her job at a healthcare center, said she chose to return the money because of her faith.

“The money does not belong to me. I returned it to have a peace of mind, and avoid God’s punishment on the day of judgement,” she told reporters in Maiduguri.

She explained that the process of refunding the money took three days, during which she felt uneasy. “I was restless throughout these three days. In fact, I couldn’t eat well throughout the process, until the day I finally transferred the money to the owner,” she said in an interview with News Central.

Her neighbors and bank officials described her as a woman of integrity who lives a modest life with her five children. One neighbor remarked, “We were not surprised, because of her discipline and the way she is training her children. She has very good values and lives a modest life with her five children.”

A bank official also commended her action, noting that her decision was uncommon. “Despite her condition, this woman chooses to fear God and do the right thing. I witnessed a case in this bank when money was mistakenly transferred into a customer’s account, he withdrew the money and spent it. He put the bank staff in serious trouble. Police were involved in the case but still the money has not been recovered,” he explained.
