Man, 58, Jumps Into Well, Kills Self In Ogun

A man has been declared dead after he committed suicide in Ogun state.

According to reports, the man, identified as Adeleyeo Alani, a 58-year-old was said to have jumped into a well, killing himself.

This happened in the Ori-Osoko Community, Abeokuta, Ogun State on on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state command, Omolola Odutola said the matter was reported by the mansa wife, who found him after he went missing.

It was gathered that the wife looked for her husband, and when she couldn’t find him she spotted his slippers beside a well in their compound.

 

While suspecting the worst, she raised an alarm, and it was confirmed that he had intentionally jumped into the well to kill himself.

She said;

The Ogun State Police Command regrets to report a tragic incident of suicide in Ori-Osoko Community, Olokuta, where a 58-year-old man, Adeleye Olusegun Alani, ended his life by jumping into a well,” 

“The incident was reported on March 12, 2025, at about 06:00 hrs by Adeleye Olukunle Olubunmi, who informed the Kemta Divisional Police Headquarters that he had received distressing news from his brother’s wife, Adetoyin Taiwo Adeleye Esq., a resident of Ori-Osoko Community.

 

“According to the report, Adetoyin returned home around 22:30 hrs on March 11, 2025, only to find her husband missing. A search around the premises led to the discovery of his slippers beside their house well, raising suspicions. To her dismay, she later realised that her husband had jumped into the well, taking his own life.”

Upon receiving the report, police operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene, where the body was recovered, and photographic documentation was taken.

“The deceased’s remains have been deposited at the mortuary, and an investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident

“The Ogun State Police Command expresses its condolences to the bereaved family and urges community members to seek emotional and psychological support during difficult times.”

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that four towers along the Owerri-Ahoada 132kV Double Circuit line have been vandalized, leading to their collapse.

The incident has disrupted power supply to the Ahoda, Gbarain, and Yenagoa 132kV transmission substations, affecting some parts of Rivers State and the entire Bayelsa State.
