A 20-year-old man identified as Nazifi Nura has been remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl.

The accused who is a resident of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano, is standing trial on a one-count charge of rape.

The Prosecution counsel, Mrs Maryam Jibrin, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 2, in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.

According to her, the defendant on that fateful day at about 11:00 a.m lured the five-year-old girl into his room and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.

The prosecutor further stated that the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 283 of the Penal Code.

The defendant however, denied committing the offence.

The Chief Magistrate, Auwal Yusuf-Suleiman, while ruling the case ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre.

The case was adjourned to May 26 for further mention.
