Man in Masquerade Attire Burns to Death in Anambra

A masquerader has reportedly died from a fire stunt pulled by his attendants in Anambra State.

Daily Report Nigeria gathered that the fatal incident happened at Ogbunike, during the annual Eli’m Ede Cultural Festival, over the weekend.

Sources say the masquerader attendants had led it to the Amawa Square to entertain already waiting spectators with a fire stunt, while the masquerade sat on the around.

The attendant thought they extinguished the fire, unknown to them that the fire had caught up the under of the masquerader.

“After they extinguished the fire, unknown to the attendants, the fire had entered the raffia costume worn by the masquerader, and before they could put it off, it spread all over the masquerade and burnt the masquerader,” the source said.

The victim was said to have sustained various degrees of burns and was rushed to the hospital, where he gave up the ghost less than 48 hours later.

The Eli’m Ede Festival is an annual event, where masqueraders of various sizes and shapes gather at the village square to entertain indigenes.
