The trigger was said to be an altercation stemming from an Eiye member reportedly flirting with a Vikings member’s girlfriend at a local party.
In retaliation, members of the Eiye group stormed into town in search of their rivals. During the rampage, they encountered a young man walking along a road currently under construction by Julius Berger. Suspecting him to be a member of the Vikings, they reportedly assaulted him with dangerous weapons until he died.
It remains unclear whether the victim had any affiliation with either cult group at the time of the attack.
The incident has heightened fears of further violence, with residents and business owners in the area on edge.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, for an official response have been unsuccessful.
