An Upper Area Court in Zuba, Abuja, on Friday, February 12, sentenced a vendor, Hashirmu Babangida, to 12 strokes of cane for stealing tubers of yam worth N596,000.
Babangida, a resident of Dankogi Garage, Zuba, was charged with theft.
Presiding over the judgement, Judge Gambo Garba warned Babaginda to change his ways.

Prior to the final judgement, the prosecution counsel, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that on December 27, 2020, the complainant, Tanko John, reported the matter at the Zuba Police Station.
According to Ogada, Babaginda on December 27, 2020, trespassed into John’s farm located at Zuba, Abuja, and stole the said tubers of yam.
He added that Babaginda confessed and admitted to committing the offence during police interrogation, as the stolen yams were recovered.
The Prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
