Man Sentenced to Six Months In Jail For Stealing While in Police Detention

A man has bagged a six months jail term for stealing in the police station.
The man, identified as Habib Dada, 34, was reported to have stolen the sum of N13,250 belonging to another suspect while in detention in a police station in Abuja.

According to Daily Trust, the convict who resides in Guzape, Asokoro village pleaded guilty to escaping from lawful custody and theft, and begged for leniency.
Delivering his judgement in a Dei Dei court on Monday, Sulyman Ola, however tampered mercy with justice as he have Dada an option fine of N40,000 for the two-count charge and warned him to desist from committing crime.

The convict was ordered to pay the full sum of N13,250 which he stole from police counter.

The prosecutor, Chinedu Ogada, had earlier disclosed that the accused was originally arrested and detained at Efab Estate police station on 29th of April in connection with a case of gym equipment, iPhone and car battery theft.
Ogada added that Dada succeeded in escaping when a police officer opened the cell and brought out two suspects. He then sneakily moved to the counter where he stole the money before making away.

According to the prosecutor, police eventually tracked down the accused and re-arrested him.
