A Kaduna State High Court sitting on Wednesday has convicted and sentenced a man identified as Usman Shehu Bashir to death by hanging.
Usman is to face the death penalty following the alleged raping of a 2-year-old baby who died as a result of the act in the Dogarawa area of the state.
Justice Kabir Dabo, who delivered the judgment on Wednesday, stated that the judgment was declared under the section 221 of the penal code, Kaduna state law as amended in 1999.

According to Judge Dabo, the convict verbally confessed to the crime which confirms his written statement tendered to the police on the wake of his arrest.
He further narrated that on the day of the incident, the convict took his victim to his room and violated her for 40 minutes, leading to her untimely death after.
The case which lasted about five years, was registered in court since March 23, 2015.
According to the Judge, Usman Bashir can appeal the judgement within 90 days after the passed date.
On his part, Malam Zakariya Ya’u Dahiru, father of the late Fatima stated that the judgement meted on the rapist and killer of his daughter is justifying enough.
Zakariya’s stance is further buttressed by the State Counsel, Barrister Jummai Dan Azimi who stated that the Court has in fact, done justice to the case.
