Manchester United European Campaign in Jeopardy as Sir Jim Ratcliffe Invests in Club

Manchester United

Manchester United might face exclusion from European competitions next season following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a minority stake in the Premier League club. Ratcliffe is also the owner of OGC Nice, a club currently holding the fifth position in Ligue 1.

UEFA’s regulations regarding ownership of multiple clubs suggest that both Manchester United and OGC Nice might be ineligible to participate in the same tournament.

Nevertheless, UEFA has made slight adjustments to their rules, permitting clubs under common ownership to compete in different European competitions starting from next season. However, the prohibition on these teams participating in the same tournament persists.

“It is correct that Manchester United and Nice cannot play in the same competition.

“They could play in different competitions, as there is no ‘feeding’ between competitions any more,” a UEFA insider is quoted as telling the Sun.
