Actress reportedly detained overnight at Panti before Abuja transfer
-
Case comes days after Mercy Johnson’s warning on cyberbullying
Popular Nollywood actress Angela Okorie was reportedly arrested at her Lagos residence on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Cybercrime Centre, Abuja, over allegations of cyberbullying.
The arrest was disclosed on Wednesday by entertainment journalist and BON Awards founder, Seun Oloketuyi, who shared details of the development via his Instagram page.
According to Oloketuyi, Angela Okorie was initially detained at the Yaba, Panti Police Station, where she spent the night before being flown to Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday for further legal proceedings.
He wrote:
“Angela Okorie was arrested yesterday at her Lagos residence by the Nigeria Police Force Cybercrime Centre, Abuja. She was put on a 6am flight to Abuja this morning to face court proceedings connected to a cybercrime matter involving Mercy Johnson.”
The arrest comes exactly one week after Mercy Johnson publicly stated that cyberbullying targeted at her and her family would no longer be tolerated in 2026, a statement many now see as a strong warning ahead of the legal action.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Angela Okorie nor Mercy Johnson has released an official statement addressing the matter.
