Mr Akinbiyi added:“Though the casualty figures cannot be ascertained presently, rescue and emergency services are still on ground to restore normalcy and orderliness.”
Recurring Tanker Disasters
The Ogun tragedy follows a pattern of deadly tanker explosions across Nigeria’s highways. In October 2024, a petrol tanker fire at Ibafo on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway killed at least one person and destroyed several vehicles. In July 2025, a similar incident in Ibadan after a brake failure resulted in massive losses.
