The Nigerian military has dealt a significant blow to oil thieves and terrorists in the country, recovering N793 million worth of stolen crude oil and neutralising 118 terrorists in just one week.
According to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, troops deployed to the South-South region seized 602,200 litres of stolen crude oil, 64,900 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and 12,690 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) during several operations.
In addition, 18 suspected oil thieves were apprehended, and 44 illegal refining sites were discovered and destroyed.
The military also recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition, including 87 assorted weapons and 2,244 rounds of ammunition.

“The successful operations in both the South-South and Northern regions underscore the military’s resolve to root out criminal elements endangering the nation’s peace and stability,” Major General Buba said.
The military’s efforts have been commended by many, with some calling it a significant step in the fight against oil theft and terrorism.

“This is a major blow to the oil thieves and terrorists who have been sabotaging our economy,” said a security analyst. “The military deserves commendation for their efforts.”
The military has assured that it remains committed to neutralising threats to Nigeria’s territorial integrity and security.
