Miss Anambra Crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2025 in Lagos

On Saturday, the grand finale of the Miss Universe Nigeria 2025 pageant in Lagos saw Onyinyechi Basil, representing Anambra State, emerge as the winner.

Basil claimed the crown after a thrilling showdown with Miss Lagos, Damilola Bolarinde, in the final moments of the competition, impressing the judges and organizers alike with her poise and performance.

Miss Bayelsa, Fortune Kurobo, was named second runner-up, while Miss Ogun, Irene Ikediashi, finished in third place. Completing the top five was Miss Akwa Ibom, Idah Eno, who also earned the honorary title of Miss Supranational Nigeria 2025.

Of the 22 contestants who began the competition, 10 advanced to the final stages. Among them were Miss Delta, De-Blessing Asaboro; Miss Ekiti, Ezekiel Silver; Miss Imo, Chukwukereobi Chinaza; Miss Ebonyi, Ugoaru Onuoha; and Miss Oyo, Lagoke Funmike, though they did not place in the top five.

The finale showcased a vibrant mix of culture, fashion, and entertainment. Contestants wowed the audience in the traditional wear segment, combining local fabrics with modern designs, while the swimwear presentation highlighted confidence and body positivity. Energetic dance performances added to the evening’s lively atmosphere.

Public voting played a significant role this year, with Miss Delta, De-Blessing Asaboro, leading online votes with 38,319. She was followed by Miss Lagos, Damilola Bolarinde, who received 34,033 votes, and Miss Ekiti, Ezekiel Silver, with 28,074 votes.

Hosted by Anthony Abraham and Victory Wilson, the star-studded event drew large crowds both at the venue and online, generating a buzz across social media platforms.

Onyinyechi Basil succeeds Chidinma Adetshina, Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, and will now represent Nigeria at the international Miss Universe competition later this year, competing against queens from around the world.

Reports indicate that the factional Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), Arabambi Abayomi, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to arrest, investigate, and prosecute former LP presidential candidate Peter Obi, as well as activists Aisha Yesufu and Sarah Ibrahim, over their alleged roles in inciting treasonable felony, cyberstalking, and cyber-bullying.

In an open letter to President Tinubu, Abayomi emphasized the need to uphold the rule of law and restore public decorum, stressing that the law should apply equally to all Nigerians, irrespective of political standing.
