Mob Hacks Thief To Death In Benue | Daily Report Nigeria
  • A group of angry mob have assaulted a suspected thief to death in Benue state.

  • The thief was reported to have attempted to steal from a church before being apprehended.

An angry mob have poured out their frustration on a suspected thief, as they hack him to death.

The incident was reported to have happened on Wednesday, near Modern Market in Makurdi, Benue State.

Confirming the incident to PUNCH, an eyewitness noted that the deceased and two accomplices were alleged to have broken into a church offices, stealing valuables before attempting to flee.

Residents nearby however spotted them and pursued them and caught one, while the other two managed to escape.

A resident said,

Although robbers have been terrorising us here for a while now, today, while I was coming back from work, a girl who was going to a church nearby said that she saw three young men enter the church.

“It was the girl who later raised the alarm, which drew the attention of neighbours around, and immediately we saw them (the suspects) trying to escape.

While two of the suspects escaped, one of them was unlucky, as people hacked him to death.”

The body of the alleged thief has been evacuated and taken to the mortuary.

 

The Assistant Public Relations Officer for the State Command, Harry Ekwo, who confirmed the incident said;

No one has made any formal report of any church theft, although the police have evacuated the corpse and deposited it in a morgue,”
