Mob Lynches Elderly Woman Accused Of Witchcraft In Benue

  • A group of angry mob has lynched an elderly woman to death over allegations of witchcraft.

  • The police have also responded, as they arrest two suspects, in connection to the crime.

Operatives of the Benue state police command have arrested two people, in connection to a mob attack in the state.

Daily Report Nigeria gathers that the suspects, identified as Bako, 50, and Oyaje Clement, 40, were arrested for their involvement in the lynching of a woman, over allegations of being a witch

This happened in Egba village, Agatu Local Government Area of the state on Christmas Eve.

Confirming the arrest in a statement released on Thursday, January 2, the spokesperson of the command, SP Catherine Anene said that is just one case from the numerous mob attacks in the region.

Another worrisome situation in the state is the case of people taking the law into their own hands, particularly young people killing the elderly for alleged cases of witchcraft,” she stated.

“On December 24, 2024, around 7:00 p.m., we received information about the killing of an aged woman over allegations of witchcraft in Egba village, Agatu LGA. Following investigations, two suspects were arrested in connection to the case.”

She added that the police are working tirelessly to bring all the offenders to book.
