Court order ignored: Customary Court directive issued October 31, 2025, yet refund unpaid.
A Lagos-based entrepreneur, Rasheed Muraina, is still awaiting a ₦1.05 million refund from Moniepoint, months after a court ordered the fintech company to reverse the funds mistakenly transferred to a wrong account.
Muraina explained that on August 10, 2025, he attempted to move money from his OPay account to his Moniepoint business account but mistakenly entered an incorrect account number due to a screen error.

He first transferred ₦250,000, then followed with ₦800,000 to the same wrong Moniepoint account, bringing the total to ₦1.05 million.
Upon discovering the error, Muraina contacted OPay, where he was advised that the funds could only be reversed with a court order.

He subsequently obtained the order from a Customary Court in Oyo State on October 31, 2025, directing Moniepoint to refund the money.
The court order was forwarded to both Moniepoint and OPay on November 10, 2025, but as of January 2026, the refund has not been made. Muraina said repeated follow-ups have yielded no result.
In response to enquiries, OPay confirmed that it forwarded the court order to Moniepoint and sent reminders, but said it had received no feedback from the fintech company. Moniepoint, on its part, acknowledged the complaint, stating that the issue was receiving attention from the relevant team.
Despite these assurances, Muraina remains without his money more than five months after the mistaken transfer and over two months after the court order, raising concerns about compliance with judicial directives by financial technology firms in Nigeria.
