Speculation around Walid Regragui’s resignation has intensified following Morocco’s painful AFCON final defeat to Senegal, but the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has now moved to shut down the reports, insisting that no resignation has been submitted by the Atlas Lions head coach.

Reports emerged shortly after the AFCON final loss claiming that Morocco head coach Walid Regragui had stepped down from his role and formally submitted a resignation letter to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

Several media outlets alleged that Regragui, who guided Morocco to a historic World Cup semi-final, had informed the federation of his intention to resign, with approval said to be pending.

However, those claims have now been firmly denied.

According to respected journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, an official from the FRMF dismissed the reports, stating clearly that the federation has received nothing from the coach.

“Morocco (the FRMF) has received no resignation from Walid,” the official said.

The denial has only deepened uncertainty around Walid Regragui’s future, especially at a time when Moroccan football is preparing for the next phase of World Cup qualification.

Despite the heartbreak of the AFCON final defeat, Regragui’s record remains unmatched. He is widely regarded as the most successful coach in Morocco’s history, having led the Atlas Lions to their first-ever World Cup semi-final and a continental final.

Still, pressure from fans and expectations from the federation mean questions about his next move will not disappear anytime soon. For now, the Moroccan FA and supporters await an official position from Regragui himself as preparations for future tournaments continue.
