During the press conference, he stopped to pay tribute to his former captain.
“If he could speak now, he’d say, ‘Do your press conference, play the game tomorrow, Mister—win it, forget about me,” – Mourinho said.
“I’ll do my job today and tomorrow, then I’ll cry.” – former Chelsea manager added.
On the other hand, Portugal’s captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, posted on Instagram to honour Costa.
The 40-year-old former Real Madrid star shared a photo of Costa with the message “Até sempre, Jorge Costa” (“Until forever”) and a dove emoji.
Costa passed away at 53 after suffering a cardiac arrest at Porto’s training ground.
He captained FC Porto to the 2004 Champions League title under Mourinho, earned 50 caps for Portugal, and spent the 2001–02 season on loan at Charlton Athletic.
