MTN denies stealing data from customers, says it’s change in network.
Amidst several allegations of data stealing heaped on MTN by its customers, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett has finally cleared the air, denying accusations of data theft.
According to a Ghanaian News Online report on Wednesday, MyJoyOnline, Mr. Stephen said the accusation of data theft has been a persistent complaint from customers in every market.
Recall that many online comments have been pointing accusatory fingers at the brand over the years, but the last two years have been recorded more than eighty percent of customers from the over 80 million subscriber base.
A recent report gathered that customers flooded the Nigerian Communications Commission and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission on Tuesday with emails and messages, demanding a probe into unexplained data consumption.

Mr Stephen in an interview stated that MTN has no reason to steal data from customers. He attributed the fast data depletion to the network change from 4G to 5G and high-resolution video streaming.
He said, “If I steal data, I can’t report it—I’d lose my bonus. A better network speeds up data use. YouTube switches to higher resolution on stronger signals—it’s like Pac-Man eating your data. We don’t control that.”
He insisted on the integrity of MTN noting that they are independently audited and won’t jeopardize their standard.
