MTN Resumes Sales, Registration Of New SIM Cards

Telecommunication giants, MTN Nigeria has resumed the sale and registration of new Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) Cards, Daily Report Nigeria can confirm.

Recall that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had asked all telecommunications operators to stop the sales and activation of SIM Cards across the country as a security check measure.

The suspension of sales and registration of new SIM cards was announced in a statement by the Director, Public Affairs, Ikechukwu Adinde on the 8th of December, 2020.

However, MTN Nigeria on Thursday announced the resumption of sales and registration of SIM Cards in 24 states across the federation.

The South African company also stated efforts are on top gear to resume sales from the rest of the states not currently listed.

“Thank you for choosing MTN”

“To make your experience at our store seamless and make the process faster, please be kind to come with the following:

  1. Your National Identity Number (NIN) is mandatory by law for registering and activating your new SIM.

  2. In addition, please come along with any one of these valid, government issued IDs:
    i. Your NIN slip
    ii. Your Voter’s Card
    iii. Your Driver’s License
    iv. Your international passport.

SIM registration cannot be done by proxy.”

There are indications other telecommunication operators will commence the sales and registration of new SIM cards across the country.
