‘My Administration Won’t Import Food Items’ – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has firmly stated that he will not endorse the importation of food items.

Tinubu made the statement during a meeting with 36 state governors in Abuja on Thursday, February 15, 2024 over food crisis.

He revealed that his administration is rather committed to home-grown solutions to tackle the nation’s food security challenges.

Despite protests across states due to high living costs and food inflation, the President remains resolute in this stance, rejecting the establishment of a price control board.

The Federal High Court in Lagos had recently ordered the government to regulate prices of goods and petroleum products, but the President’s focus remains on domestic solutions.

He said:
What I will not do is to set a price control board. I will not also approve the importation of food.

“We should be able to get ourselves out of the situation we found ourselves in, because importation will allow rent seekers to perpetrate fraud and mismanagement at our collective expense.

“We would rather support farmers with the schemes that will make them go to the farm and grow more food for everyone in the country.

”We must also look at the rapid but thoughtful implementation of our livestock development and management plans, including dairy farming and others.”
