Salihu Zurmi, a lawmaker representing Zurmi East Constituency in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, has decried what he calls persistent attacks, intimidation, and a threat to his life because he refused to defect to the All Progressives Congress.
Zurmi, the only state lawmaker who refused to join Governor Bello Mattawale’s APC, said he has received threats to his life from a variety of sources.
He maintained that the problem escalated when he refused to support the impeachment of state Deputy Governor Mahdi Aliyu Gusau.

“They’ve been harassing and intimidating me because I refused to support the Deputy Governor’s impeachment,” Zurmi said.
Since the impeachment process began, they have been attempting to silence me.
“That is why I decided to leave the state and come to Abuja because I know that if I stay in Zamfara, the worst could happen.”
