Onyeka Onwenu, a music legend, has spoken out about the many difficulties she faced during her failed marriage.

In an interview, the 70-year-old actress discussed how she worked so hard to keep her marriage from failing until she realized she could die if she stayed in it.

“I went through it,” Onwenu said. It was difficult because I did not want my marriage to end, but I couldn’t stand it any longer.

It would have suffocated me. That is what I always say, and it is true.

“And it was not good for the children to live in that kind of environment where the mother was depressed, carrying the weight of the entire family.”

She also revealed that she raised her children from kindergarten to a Master’s degree level.

“It’s hard to believe that my husband didn’t pay my school fees for one day, didn’t buy me clothes, didn’t pay for vacations, and didn’t give me housekeeping money.”

The legendary musician and actress stated that men will have to answer to God if they neglect their families, adding that she felt compelled to speak out because many women are remaining silent and dying in silence.

“I decided to write about it because, as women, we tend to keep quiet for far too long.” We take so much from you, and you’re dying.

And once I opened up, I felt such relief that many of the women who read it would say, “Thank you for discussing this.” ‘We realize now that we need to free ourselves,’ she said.
