  • NAF decimated Boko Haram hideout, neutralized troops.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in a decisive operation conducted targeted airstrikes that destroyed a Boko Haram hideout nestled within the challenging terrain of the Mandara Mountains in Borno State.

The operation focused on terrorist strongholds in Chikide and Degbewa, areas notorious for militant activities.

The Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, Group Captain, Kabiru Ali, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, March 18, the successful execution of the mission, highlighting the precision and effectiveness of the airstrikes.

He said, “The night operation targeted insurgent enclaves deep within the treacherous Mandara Mountains, delivered a crippling blow to the terrorists’ stronghold and disrupting their activities.”

He described it as a bold display of unwavering commitment to eradicating insurgency in the northeastern region.

“In a bold demonstration of air power and precision night warfare capabilities, the NAF executed a devastating nocturnal airstrike against terrorist hideouts in Chikide and Degbewa on 16 March 2025.”

The Mandara Mountains have historically served as a sanctuary for Boko Haram militants, providing natural fortifications against ground assaults. The recent airstrikes not only dismantled these fortified enclaves but also sent a resounding message about the NAF’s enhanced aerial capabilities and intelligence-driven operations.

NAF’s operation aligns with a series of intensified military efforts aimed at destabilizing insurgent networks in Borno State.

In January 2025, Nigerian troops successfully repelled a Boko Haram ambush in the region, resulting in the elimination of 34 insurgents, though six soldiers tragically lost their lives in the confrontation.

The persistent threat posed by Boko Haram has led to numerous atrocities, including the massacre of at least 40 farmers in Borno State’s Dumba region earlier this year. Such incidents have galvanized the Nigerian military to adopt more aggressive and targeted strategies against the insurgents.

The NAF’s recent success in the Mandara Mountains signifies a pivotal advancement in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign. By disrupting Boko Haram’s operational bases, the military aims to restore stability and security to the beleaguered communities of northeastern Nigeria.

As the NAF continues to leverage advanced aerial tactics and real-time intelligence, there is a renewed sense of optimism that the scourge of insurgency in Borno State can be effectively curtailed, paving the way for peace and development in the region.
