The agency explained that while it routinely issues safety alerts and product recalls, such actions are limited to specific brands or batches found to be substandard and do not apply to Amoxicillin as a medicine.
According to NAFDAC, recent alerts involved products that failed quality assessments, including batches with low levels of active ingredients, prompting targeted recalls to protect public health.
The regulatory body clarified that these measures were precautionary and should not be misinterpreted as a blanket prohibition on the drug.
NAFDAC urged members of the public to disregard unverified information and rely solely on updates from its official and verified communication channels for accurate guidance on medicines and health-related issues.
The agency reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety, quality and efficacy of regulated products while combating misinformation that could undermine public confidence in essential medicines.
