NAFDAC Raids Counterfeit Cosmetics Factory

50% of Pharmaceutical Products Imported Into Nigeria Fake - NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raided and shut down an illegal factory producing counterfeit cosmetic products in Lagos State.

According to a statement released by NAFDAC, the factory, located at Benue Plaza, Trade Fair Complex, was discovered to be manufacturing and packaging unregistered and expired products for sale.

Its operatives seized over 1,200 cartons of fake cosmetic products, including mini-mixing containers, unlabelled chemicals, batch coding materials, and thinners, with an estimated street value of N50 million.

The agency has urged the public to exercise caution when purchasing cosmetic products and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.

NAFDAC said on Tuesday via X:

The Agency estimates the street value of the confiscated items to be around ₦50 million.

“NAFDAC urges the public to be cautious when purchasing cosmetic products and report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.”
