NAFDAC Warns Nigerians Against Smuggled Frozen Chicken

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has cautioned Nigerians against patronizing Smuggled frozen poultry products, saying food items such as frozen poultry products are usually preserved with formalin.

Spokesperson to NAFDAC, Abubakar Jimoh, in an interview with NAN on Monday, said such products should be avoided as they contain toxic substances.

Formalin, which is used to preserve smuggled frozen poultry products such as chicken and turkey, is a chemical added as a preservative for laboratory specimens and corpses — it is described as unsuitable for human consumption as it could cause cancer.
