The naira appreciated further on Friday to close the trading week on a positive note against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the local currency strengthened to ₦1,417.95 per dollar, improving from ₦1,419.28 recorded on Thursday, representing a ₦1.33 daily gain.

At the parallel (black) market, the naira remained unchanged at ₦1,490 per dollar, a rate that held steady for most of the week, according to Bureau De Change operators.
On a week-on-week basis, the naira recorded a stronger performance, gaining ₦5.22 compared with ₦1,423.17 per dollar traded last Friday.
The currency’s improved showing comes amid a rise in Nigeria’s external reserves, which climbed to $45.86 billion as of January 15, 2026, boosting confidence in the foreign exchange market.
