The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has denounced its planned protest scheduled for September 15, 2024, against the recent fuel price increase.

In a statement, NANS leadership revealed their commitment to peaceful and constructive dialogue, stressing that they do not support any actions that could lead to civil unrest or disrupt public order.

The statement, signed by NANS Senate President Afeez Akinteye, described the planned protest as “baseless” and “misinformation.”

Akinteye urged the public, media, and stakeholders to disregard the reports, stating that NANS has always been committed to peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement.

NANS leadership cited potential consequences of the protest and called on security agencies to investigate the origin of the misinformation and hold those responsible accountable.

This development comes amid internal divisions within NANS, with multiple factions vying for influence and authority.

It was believed that one of these factions may have issued a call to action, while another faction dissociated themselves from the movement.
