The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to raise the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to ₦77,000.
NANS Senate President Henry Okunomo made this appeal in a letter addressed to President Tinubu, emphasizing that the current allowance of ₦33,000 is insufficient given the rising cost of living and recent increases in minimum wage.

Okunomo argued that the current allowance does not reflect the economic realities, with inflation and the high cost of living significantly diminishing its value.

He stated, “The NYSC scheme is a vital component of our nation’s youth development strategy,” and urged that increasing the allowance would enhance corps members’ ability to perform their duties effectively and contribute meaningfully to national development.
He concluded his appeal by asserting that adjusting the allowance would be a just investment in Nigeria’s human capital, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting its youth.
