The National Assembly has set an ambitious revenue target of N25 trillion for the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in 2025.
This comes after the FIRS exceeded its 2024 revenue target of N19.4 trillion, generating N21.6 trillion.
Lawmakers commended the FIRS Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, for his outstanding performance. Senator Sani Musa, Chairman of the Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Finance, said, “FIRS should work with the N25 trillion projected revenue set for it in 2025. It is achievable and even surpassable.”

Other lawmakers, including Hon. Saidu Musa Abdullahi and Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, also praised Adedeji’s efforts, urging him to explore new avenues for revenue generation.
Abdullahi suggested that the FIRS study the template used in South Africa, which generates more revenue from tax collections despite having a smaller population.
