The national power grid collapsed on Saturday, throwing the entire country into darkness. The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) confirmed the development in a statement.

According to the EEDC, the grid collapsed at 3:09 pm (15:09 hours) on July 6, 2024, resulting in the loss of supply across the network. “The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company wishes to inform its esteemed customers of a general system collapse which occurred at 15:09 hours today, 6th July 2024. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the network,” the statement read.

The company stated that all its interface stations with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) are out of supply, and it is unable to provide services to customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States. “Due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States,” the statement said.

The EEDC is awaiting detailed information on the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre in Osogbo. “We are on standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre, Osogbo,” the statement concluded.

The grid collapse has left millions of Nigerians without electricity, disrupting economic and social activities across the country.
