The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has directed airline passengers to switch off their phones and other electronic devices during flight take-off and landing.
Mr Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, disclosed this in a post on X on Tuesday. He explained that the new directive formally harmonises aviation regulations on the use of mobile phones in Nigeria.

The announcement followed an emergency meeting with aviation stakeholders held earlier on Tuesday. Discussions at the meeting centred on improving passenger safety, tackling unruly behaviour in airports, strengthening collaboration among stakeholders, and ensuring passengers comply with aviation rules.
The NCAA maintained that strict enforcement of the regulation was necessary to guarantee flight safety and protect the integrity of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
