-Makes case for Deltan Board Chairman
The Ijaw People’s Development Initiative, IPDI, has sent a strong worded petition to President Muhammadu Buhari, NSA, Chief of Staff, DSS, Ministry of Justice, Senate President, Speaker House of Representatives, seeking for the immediate appointment of a substantive board to man the affairs of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
The group also rejected the appointment of sole administrator to oversee the commission.
National President of the IPDI, Comrade Ozobo Austin argued in a petition dated 31st December, 2020, that it was unconstitutional appoint a Sole Administrator for the NDDC, nothing that such actions by the presidency has not the backing of the laws establishing the Commission.

Ozobo lamented that the NDDC haS been turned into a fishing port or a cash-cow by few privileged individuals in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
The group also added that since the establishment of the NDDC, Delta State has not produced a Chairman in the Commission, and called for the appointment of proven individuals from the state as MD and Chairman respectively.
The statement reads in part:
“We write formally to reject the obnoxious and illegal appointment of sole administrator of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC. It is our request that a substantive Managing Director and Chairman be appointed from Delta State to Mann the Commission without further delay”
“It may interest you to know that it is unconstitutional to have appoint a sole administrator in NDDC as it does not have any constitutional backing”
“Again, it is a fact the enabling laws establishing the Commission provides rotation or zoning of key offices such as the Managing Director and Chairman on the basis of production quantum”
“It is appalling that Niger Delta Development Commission has been turned to a fishing port or a cash-cow by few privileged individuals in president Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, defeating its purpose of creation.”
“However, following available records of appointment of the Managing Directors and Chairmen in the Commission over the years shows that it is the turn of Delta State to produce the next managing Director and Chairman of the Commission.”
Meantime, taking a clue at the chart below will create more insights on our argument”

“However, the chart above proves that Delta State had just ruled 3years single short-term as Managing Director, while every other state were given enough privilege and time to enjoy MD and chairman positions in the Commission.”
“Meanwhile, we hereby state unequivocally to reject the appointment of a sole administrator in Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, as it is unconstitutional.”
“It should be noted that we may decide to go into protest to shutdown the operations of NDDC headquarters if the substantive Managing Director and Chairman are not appointed in the next few possible times”
“It is also part of our warning that the appointment of Sole Administrator be reversed with immediate effect and a substantive Managing Director and Chairman be appointed without further delay to avert the impending protest that may disrupt governance in the country.”
