The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a businessman, identified as Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, for allegedly ingesting and concealing cocaine at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).

Emeka, a 52 year old boutique owner who operates in both Lagos and Onitsha, was arrested upon arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, on October 8 aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight. His arrest followed a tip-off and subsequent intelligence tracking by NDLEA operatives.

According to the NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the suspect was subjected to a body scan that revealed traces of illicit drugs in his system. “He later excreted 69 wraps of cocaine in seven sessions after 58 wraps were earlier recovered from his underwear,” Babafemi said. The total weight of the drug was estimated at 1.388 kilograms.

In a related operation, NDLEA officers in Lagos uncovered three shipments of narcotics meant for export to the United Kingdom. The drugs included 1.74 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in blocks of glass ceramics, along with tramadol and pentazocine injections disguised as Vitamin C containers.

The agency further blocked attempts to send 2.6 kilograms of skunk and 422 grams of tapentadol tablets camouflaged as black soap to Turkey. Other seizures included 169 grams of cocaine hidden in handbags destined for Australia and 568 grams of cannabis packed in herbal containers bound for the United Arab Emirates.

At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, NDLEA operatives intercepted 27,510 rohypnol pills cleverly hidden in alcoholic sachets heading to South Africa. A follow-up operation led to the arrest of 46-year-old Samuel Omoruyi, who allegedly organized the export.

In a similar case, an Italy-based businessman, Enehizena Augustine Uyimwen, was caught trying to export 3,700 tramadol pills and 2,600 tapentadol tablets to Europe. The substances were concealed in food items, and Uyimwen confessed he was paid €945 to deliver them.
