Raji was apprehended on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at his residence in the Safe Court Apartments area of Ikate, Lekki, in Lagos, following months of intelligence gathering and surveillance by anti-narcotics operatives.

In a statement released on Sunday, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed that the suspect had been on the NDLEA’s watchlist since 2025, after intelligence reports allegedly connected him to the funding of illicit drug consignments involving overseas collaborators.

According to the agency, Raji was arrested shortly after returning to Nigeria from the United Kingdom.

A search conducted at his residence reportedly led to the recovery of four large travel bags containing parcels of cannabis popularly known as “Canadian Loud.” The substance weighed 89.20 kilograms, while a 2024 Toyota Hiluxvehicle was also seized at the scene.

Investigators allege that preliminary findings indicate Raji initially financed multiple drug consignments for an associate abroad before allegedly setting up his own distribution network within Nigeria.

NDLEA officials further claimed that during interrogation, the suspect admitted venturing into the illicit drug trade after receiving substantial financial returns from earlier shipments.

“The profits encouraged him to expand operations,” an NDLEA source said, referring to the suspect’s alleged statement.

The agency has not confirmed whether other suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, nor has it disclosed when Raji will be formally charged in court.

In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives uncovered additional drug trafficking attempts involving:

  • A woman who allegedly faked pregnancy to smuggle opioids
  • An Ivorian national who swallowed dozens of cocaine wraps

The interceptions occurred at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport and the Seme Border, disrupting attempts to traffic illicit drugs to Europe and other
