The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially published the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for external candidates, reporting a strong overall performance across the country.
The announcement was made in Minna, Niger State, where the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, declared the results during a briefing at the council’s headquarters.

He confirmed that candidates can now check their results through NECO’s official online portal using their registration details.
According to the council, a total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, with 95,160 eventually participating across sixteen subjects. Male candidates accounted for just over half of those registered, while female candidates made up the remainder.
Performance data released by NECO showed encouraging outcomes in core subjects. In English Language, more than three-quarters of candidates obtained credit passes or higher, while Mathematics recorded an even stronger success rate, with over nine in ten candidates achieving credit and above.
Overall, 82,082 candidates secured at least five credits irrespective of English and Mathematics, while 68,166 candidates achieved five credits including both compulsory subjects.

However, the council expressed concern over examination misconduct, revealing that over 9,000 candidates were implicated in various forms of malpractice—an increase compared with the previous year.
NECO also announced disciplinary actions against supervisors and examination centres found culpable, including recommendations for blacklisting and withdrawal of accreditation.
The SSCE External examination is designed mainly for private candidates who are outside the conventional school system or those seeking to improve previously obtained results.
NECO reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining examination integrity while expanding access to certification opportunities.
