Senator Ned Nwoko has once again sparked public debate after saying he feels sorry for men who choose to have only one wife. The Delta North senator made the comment while speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Sunday.

“I feel sorry for those who have one wife. Just imagine standing on one leg, it’s difficult. But with two, three, or four, you’re more balanced. That’s the example I give,” he said, using humour to defend his belief in polygamy.

Nwoko, who is married to four wives, said he finds polygamy to be a source of stability, peace, and balance in family life. According to him, the arrangement allows for a stronger support system at home.

When asked whether his faith permits polygamy, the senator replied, “The Old Testament does. I am a man of faith. But that’s not what we are here for.”

Nwoko also said he had no regrets about his marital choices. “No, I don’t have any regret. I would do the same thing again. You should marry who you want to marry,” he added.

The lawmaker further addressed recent rumours about alleged domestic issues with his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels. He dismissed the claims as false and baseless, insisting he is not a violent man.

“I am not a violent person. I respect my wives and love them and my kids,” he said, stressing that his home is built on mutual respect and understanding.

His comments come amid social media chatter after Regina Daniels unveiled a new mansion, writing, “In my house, I am a queen. I needed a roof over my head, so I got this for me and my family.”

Nwoko’s remarks have since reignited the long-running debate about polygamy in Nigerian society, with many praising his confidence while others questioned his views on marriage.
