Loan fund says slow verification is stalling disbursements nationwide

Thousands of applicants unable to access tuition and upkeep funds

Agency relocates headquarters to new Abuja office for efficiency

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has raised concern over prolonged verification delays by tertiary institutions, cautioning that the bottleneck is blocking disbursement of loans to thousands of student beneficiaries across the country.

In a statement signed by its Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Fund disclosed that it had been overwhelmed with complaints from applicants who reported being unable to access tuition fees and allowances because of sluggish institutional response.

The Fund stressed that timely verification and approval of properly submitted applications remain a critical requirement for smooth disbursement. It urged institutions to prioritise the process in order to prevent unnecessary setbacks for loan recipients struggling to meet academic and living costs.

NELFUND reaffirmed its commitment to efficient service delivery but emphasised that without the cooperation of institutions, the agency cannot conclude payments.

In a separate update, the Fund announced that it would move its headquarters from its temporary base to a permanent office in Abuja on 5 September 2025. The new address, House 12, Plot 103/104, Monrovia Street, Wuse 2, opposite Bon Hotel, will serve as its operational hub for all correspondence and enquiries.

The Fund assured that the relocation will not disrupt activities or slow down services, adding that it remains fully dedicated to its mandate of providing affordable education loans and support to Nigerian students.
