In a social media statement, the NFVCB highlighted its concerns, condemning the actions of filmmakers and content creators who disregard the country’s legal provisions.

The board emphasized that all forms of content, including skits and music videos, must undergo classification by the NFVCB before distribution or public exhibition.

Of particular focus was content depicting same-sex relationships, which the NFVCB reiterated as illegal under Nigerian law, citing the 2014 Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act. “It is an offense to directly or indirectly make a public show (Exhibition) of same-sex relationships in Nigeria,” the board stated unequivocally.
