The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has issued a stern warning to skitmakers and content creators in Nigeria, announcing plans to arrest those distributing online content without proper approval.

Led by Shaibu Husseini, the board expressed alarm over the increasing dissemination of content that violates Nigeria’s censorship laws via platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter.

In a social media statement, the NFVCB highlighted its concerns, condemning the actions of filmmakers and content creators who disregard the country’s legal provisions.

The board emphasized that all forms of content, including skits and music videos, must undergo classification by the NFVCB before distribution or public exhibition.

Of particular focus was content depicting same-sex relationships, which the NFVCB reiterated as illegal under Nigerian law, citing the 2014 Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act. “It is an offense to directly or indirectly make a public show (Exhibition) of same-sex relationships in Nigeria,” the board stated unequivocally.

The NFVCB emphasised the legal repercussions for distributing or exhibiting any film or video content without prior classification, stressing its collaboration with law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute offenders.
