Nicki Minaj, whose real name is Onika Maraj-Petty, took to social media on Friday to express renewed concern over the killings in Nigeria, particularly those affecting Christian communities.

In a post shared on X, the global music star used a Christian hymn to underline her message before making a direct call for action.

“On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand,” she wrote.

She then added emphatically, “FREE THE CHRISTIANS IN NIGERIA!!!!!!!!!! STOP THIS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

The post quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing mixed reactions while once again placing Nigeria’s security challenges under the global spotlight.

This is not the first time Minaj has spoken on the issue. In November, she raised similar concerns during a United Nations-related briefing on global religious freedom, where violence against Christians in Nigeria was discussed extensively.

At the event, United States official Michael Waltz described the situation in stark terms.

“This is not random violence. This is genocide wearing the mask of chaos,” Waltz said.

He cited attacks in Nigeria’s Middle Belt and northern regions, noting that churches had been burned, pastors killed, and families displaced because of their faith.

Referencing data from the advocacy group Open Doors, Waltz added that 80 per cent of global violence against Christians occurs in Nigeria, a claim that has continued to fuel international concern.

Minaj, who also addressed the briefing, said Christians in Nigeria were being targeted simply for how they worship.

“Christians are being driven from their homes, killed, and forced to live in constant fear because of how they pray,” she said.

Despite these claims, the Federal Government of Nigeria has consistently rejected the narrative of religious persecution, insisting that the violence is largely caused by banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities, not faith.

Still, global figures, advocacy groups, and celebrities like Nicki Minaj continue to push for urgent attention, accountability, and lasting solutions to Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.
