Niger Coup: France Withdraw Troops, Ambassador
French President Manuel Macron

France has decided to withdraw its ambassador and end all military cooperation with Niger following a coup.

President Emmanuel Macron stated that France will imminently withdraw its ambassador from Niger, followed by the French military contingent in the next months.

The coup leaders had ordered the French ambassador to leave the country, but Paris had defied this order for two months.

Macron also mentioned that military cooperation was “over” and French troops will withdraw in the months and weeks to come, with a full pullout by the end of the year.

The French President will consult the coup leaders to ensure a peaceful withdrawal.

Meanwhile, the development followed months of animosity and protests against the French presence in the country.

Recall that a military junta seized Niger on July 26, sacking President Mohamed Bazoum.
