Authorities in Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso say they are preparing to publicly expose the names of Nigerian politicians accused of supplying weapons and funding to armed bandits wreaking havoc across Nigeria’s north-west.

Officials told DW Hausa that they have already gathered intelligence on some political figures and confirmed that arrests have been made in connection with the weapons supply chain. Investigations, they said, are ongoing to establish the full network of collaborators.

The development comes as communities across Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Kaduna continue to suffer relentless attacks. Villages have been razed, farmers displaced, and dozens of schoolchildren abducted in mass kidnappings that attracted global outrage.

In Kwara State, the police confirmed the killing of 12 vigilante members, including the Baale of Ogbayo, during a bandit attack in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area, on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

Police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said gunmen stormed Ogbayo at about 7am, firing sporadically. Security forces and the National Forest Security Service (NFSS) later recovered the bodies and moved survivors with gunshot wounds to hospital.

The planned exposure by Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso could ignite fresh diplomatic tensions as Nigeria struggles to contain years of killings, abductions, and rural displacement driven by heavily armed criminal groups.
