Nigerien soldiers have declared a coup and take over power after arrestijg President President Mohamed Bazoum.
Daily Report Nigeria reports that President Bazoum was detained in the early hours of Wednesday by the Presidential Guard which said it acted under instruction from the military.
The coup was officially announced by the soldiers during a televised broadcast in the early hours of Thursday.
The broadcast had 10 senior officers led by Colonel Major Amadou Abdramane, who said the National Council of the State Guard of the Nation had “put an end to the regime you are familiar with”.

According to Abdramanae, they took over power from President Bazoum over the deteriorating security situation as well as bad social and economic management in the country.
“We reaffirm our support to all commitment undertaken by Niger,” he said.
They had earlier cordoned off office and residence of Bazoum with military vehicles.
Meanwhile, a huge crowd of citizens who took to the streets to declare solidarity for the president were dispersed by soldiers who shot sporadically.
The development has attracted widespread condemnation from the African continent as well as across the globe.
